Wellcome Collection is a free museum and library where everyone's experience of health matters. Our exhibitions, collections, live programming, publishing and digital offer create opportunities for people to explore ideas about health and human experience.
Wellcome Collection is part of Wellcome, a global charitable foundation that improves health for everyone by funding science, shaping policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.
We plan to spend 16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate.
In 2023, Welcome Collection is introducing a new strategy that puts audiences at the heart of our work and will ensure the museum and library are accessible and inclusive for as many people as possible. This role will play a crucial part in setting a new direction for Wellcome Collection's communications and marketing to achieve these ambitious commitments.
We are looking for a Communications Lead (Wellcome Collection) to join our team
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be part of Wellcome Collection's Communications and Marketing team of nine people, reporting to the Head of Communications and Marketing. You will also work closely with the colleagues across Wellcome Collection, including our Director, as well as Wellcome's central Communications teams.
What will I be doing?
You will manage a team who promote Wellcome Collection through earned media, social media and digital content, to build our audiences, influence and reputation.
As Communications Lead for Wellcome Collection you will:
* Lead a team of three media and digital content professionals to deliver ambitious, impactful communications for Wellcome Collection.
* Be responsible for planning communications activity, identifying potential issues and opportunities for raising our profile.
* Embed Wellcome Collection's commitments to access, diversity and inclusion into our communications.
* Manage issues of reputational risk under pressure, advising senior management and supporting colleagues.
Is this the job for me?
We are looking for a resilient and adaptable communications professional with a track record of delivering high-profile campaigns and managing sensitive issues. You will have a strong interest in Wellcome Collection and a nuanced understanding of the cultural context we work in.
We are looking for somebody who:
* Has demonstrable experience of leading a successful team.
* Maintains PR or journalism experience at a senior level.
* Is skilled in using social media for a public-facing organisation.
* Has advised senior staff on complex issues of strategic and reputational importance.
* Contributes to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, working across departments.
